COMPAQ 620 FD: A decent laptop with a good price range of RS 32000. Good for students.

Compaq 620 fd

My one of the friend was searching for a good laptop and he requested me to suggest one with a decent price range. I searched over internet and also consulted with some hardware shops and came across HP Compaq 620 FD. It cost RS 31400 with Tax.

The First thing we tried on this laptop was to install Mac OS X 10.6.0(snow leopard). And everything worked well except wireless. The Sleep does not work as well. The sound also stopped working after a reboot. The problem can be solved by installing some kexts (drivers for Mac) and updating to 10.6.2 but there was no broadband available here so we dropped the idea. We decided to try windows 7 instead.

Windows 7 installed perfectly well and within 20 minute was up and running. We installed some essential software and tested Need for speed Carbon. The laptop performed pretty well. But we were unable to use the whole HD screen resolution. We also tried unreal tournament 2004. The game was pretty cool and the Illustrative scenes looked fine.

Windows 7 do not demanded any drivers but the side scroll of the touch pad was not working.

The laptop is pretty well and decent for a moderate gamer and user. There is also a HDMI port so that it can be connected to a LCD TV screen. New spill proof keyboard was at good level and good for typing. Media buttons have been given separate place in the left part of the keyboard area.

Two things that disappointed me were the vent to get the air inside for cooling was too small and the hinge do not look too well and was also weak. It means the future can be heating and a broken Hinge.
